Khong Arch or Khong Door

It was the temple arch in four sides. In the past, Ancient India constructed 4 arches covering Satupa referred to as “Torana” but later in Kupta kingdom and after this, many religious places of both Buddhism and Brahmanism created “Kopura” as large arch with purpose to show direction of entrance to the temple or place of worship which influenced arts of Khmer and Hariphunchai. Khong Arch had symbolic meaning that it was relationship between buildings inside and outside religious places. Khong Arch acted like “media” bringing happiness and peace and it blocked between unrest outside and peace inside. It is the area where visitors had to change behaviors to be calm and appropriate.
